This year I have been experimenting with an extra early potato variety called Lady Christ.
Back in January when I ordered my seed potatoes, the plan was to be eating a big plate of home grown finest by early June but having delayed planting due to bad weather until early April which I wrote about here, I always knew we had missed the window of opportunity for an early crop.
So, having survived an early attack of slugs and bad weather, I finally made the decision to lift a few on the 26th June. To be honest I didn’t write about it at the time as the crop was pretty meagre and I thought they’d better stay tucked up in bed for another couple of weeks.
Last Sunday therefore became Potato Day!
Compared to previous years I can’t say the crop was massive or particularly pretty BUT they taste amazing and for this reason alone I will try growing this variety again.
Lady Christ goes on the list for 2017!
